Types of Hair Perm
Salon Perms
Salon perms will always do a better job and are a lot safer .Also professional hairdressers can offer a number of different types of perm that are not available for home use.
Acid perms
Produce highly conditioned, flexible curls. They are ideally suited to hair that is fine, sensitive, fragile, damaged, or tinted, as they have a mildly acidic action that minimizes the risk of hair damage.
Alkaline perms
Alkaline perms give strong, firm curl results on normal and resistant hair.
Exothermic perms
Exothermic perms give bouncy, resilient curls. "Exothermic" refers to the gentle heat that is produced by the chemical reaction that occurs when the lotion is mixed. The heat allows the lotion to penetrate the hair cuticle, conditioning and strengthening the hair from inside as the lotion moulds the hair into its new shape.

Hi to all, i am a hairdresser have been for thirteen years and if you ladies want abit of honest advice and knowledge on perms here it is they break the bonds that make up your hair and force your hair to take up a new structure , neutralising one correctly is so important as your hair is locked into place and all chemical processing comes to a halt thus your hair taking up its new curl. My point is all perms will make your hair feel different for examples if your hair already fells dry it will be more so after , if your hair is heavy you will need to make it lighter first so you get the most from your perm i.e. layers .
Best advice i can give is to go to a top salon i.e a Rush or Regis headmasters
Pay for the busiest or top stylist
(remember there busy or at the top for a reason)
Don't mean to be sexest but preferably a female hairdresser as we have nearly all had a perm at one point, how many men have
and after having one invest in some good products i.e shampoo and conditioners oh and some good styling products cheap one can spoil your perm ask your stylist.
Hope this helps
good luck

I have very fine, wavy hair. I wanted to get a straight perm. People have told me that by getting a straight perm on fine hair, it will make my hair frizzy. Is that true?

Hello. I have extremely thick medium length hair. It's naturally straight and refuses to curl via curling iron. I've never had a perm nor colored my hair before. I was wondering what type of perm to get, and who you recommend? I like the loose, bigger curls look. Thanks.

My hair is super thick, sort of wavy, and curly underneath. I never straighten it because it takes too long so i end up trying to use curl gels, but they make my hair frizzy. I want a perm to make things easier and look better. I dont know if a perm would make my hair really poofy or not though? Also i dont know what type of perm would work for thick hair?

there are different types of perms. and some of them makes your hair looks so big wich i hate.
if you have a thick straight hair do not ever perm your hair curly coz is gonna be so so big. but wavy perm woud be nice. if you hair is thin and straight, curly perm would be the best.
but i only like the spiral and the body perm. they look so cute on you, and i just love it. i think perms are great dont have to do anything to it. just wash it and go. great!!!. straight perm for thick curly hair.
some one just asked that she had permed her hair straight but then the top of my hair turned out to bee realy curly and the end were straight and they got damaged. whe your hair grow, it grows your natural hair, whether if you permed your hair or not. but i don't know how your hair has damaged. maybe just give it a cut. but only the end bit. not too short!

i had a perm done a while ago and am about to get another one, they are good and easy to manage. I find using the tigi catwalk products helps maintain condition and style without much effort. you should consult your hairdresser before and she will be able to inform you of what the best style of perm will work with your hair. i had loose ringlets but have naturally wavy flat hair... :0) hope this helps
